project overview

Laura Numeroff is the New York Times best-selling children's author known for the series based on her book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. First printed in 1985, “Mouse” is now beyond its 60th printing. In 2015, I began working with Laura to revisit an earlier manuscript about service dogs and bring that story to life in partnership with Canine Companions, a not-for-profit organization providing highly skilled assistance dogs to children, adults and veterans with disabilities. By 2016, the book, Raising a Hero, was released and Laura's readers are more engaged with the author across platforms.

film

I wrote and directed Laura Numeroff in a promotional short film ahead of the release of “Raising a Hero.”

The film announces the project and partnership with Canine Companions, a not-for-profit organization providing highly skilled assistance dogs to children, adults and veterans with disabilities and special needs, free of charge.

website

I designed and built a custom website for Laura who received a ton of traffic from teachers, children and parents. The site needed to provide information about Laura, her books and events but also perform as an e-commerce POS for direct-to-consumer products and merchandise.

I integrated Shopify to process orders and payment, avoiding the need to visit an external site. When needed, direct orders could be automatically fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) or third-party vendors.

brand identity

Laura Numeroff had no existing brand identity beyond the publishers marks which changed across printed books edition to edition. Inspired from her If You Give a Mouse a Cookie lettering, I set her name in Cheltenham with some adjustments to the x-height and kerning. Body type is set in Banana Grotesk which features a number of weights and ligatures with open letters and a slight quirkiness. Her website features book titles set in Caslon Ionic, a typeface used in her recent book, Raising a Hero.
