Background

In 2009, I initiated and led a partnership between The Huntington and Apple to create original digital media related to the institution’s diverse collections. Working alongside curators, international researchers, artists and botanists– and the team at Apple– it took years to organize, record and produce what is now a media collection of its own. A decade in the making, this wide collaboration continues to unlock what has been carefully conserved, providing access and education, free to the public.

my contribution

Partner with cross-division managers and curators on story ideation and production of original media relevant to exhibitions, permanent collections, lectures, events and research.

Capture, record and edit media; publish to servers and code XML files for submission to Apple.

Monthly discussions with Apple to determine best-practices, media planning and promotional placement of new and existing content across platforms.

circulation

The Huntington’s world-class conservationists, imaging labs, lecture programs and exhibitions provided much of the material and guidance to produce podcasts, curator-led tours, video and written articles. These digital offerings immediately circulated among cultural and academic institutions, with 40,000 downloads of a single American History lecture. By 2011, Apple prominently featured The Huntington and its newly released content across iTunes U and Apple Podcasts.
